RPA Quality: Check out these RPA requirements

With Robotic Process Automation (RPA), processes are automatically processed much faster and 24/7. Sounds good. But if the automation is not carried out correctly due to poor quality, it is of no use – and you are busy troubleshooting. A few quality requirements for RPA solutions

#1: Evaluate automation potential

Before you start with the concrete implementation of process automation, the very first question should be: Which processes are suitable for automation and bring the highest return on investment?

A few RPA solutions have already integrated such a process evaluation. On a heat map, for example, the processes are positioned according to the traffic light colors red, yellow and green – depending on their suitability for automation and the resulting added value.

A quality-oriented RPA solution has various quality assurance features, such as functions and mechanisms for error detection and handling.

Four of these quality assurance functions are briefly presented here as examples:

  • Automatic error analysis: A so-called “debugging” function continuously identifies weak points in the automation process. And in the best case, the solutions offers information to the user how to optimize and improve the existing automation workflow.
  • Testing: Software developments are put through a test phase before they go live. A high-quality RPA solution makes testing a fixed step: Every automation process automatically runs through the testing process before commissioning.
  • Audits: Audits are a common procedure in companies to check compliance with standards. The same should your RPA solution do: integrated audit steps in the solution check whether the developed automation process meets certain quality standards.
  • Scenario handling: A good RPA solution is able to handle different scenarios of a process flow. Different branching options can be defined, this is important for self-healing mechanisms.
